Kalvakuntla Kavitha A Prominent Leader Of The Bharat Rashtra Samithi Brs Has Been Granted Bail By The Supreme Court In Connection With The Delhi Excise Policy Case

Supreme Court Grants Bail to Kalvakuntla Kavitha in Delhi Excise Policy Case

Kalvakuntla Kavitha, a prominent leader of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), has been granted bail by the Supreme Court in connection with the Delhi Excise Policy case.

Kavitha, the daughter of former Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in December 2022 for her alleged involvement in the irregularities in the formulation and implementation of the Delhi government's Excise Policy for 2021-22.

A bench comprising Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud and Justices P.S. Narasimha and J.B. Pardiwala granted Kavitha bail on a surety bond of Rs. 1 lakh.

The court directed Kavitha to surrender her passport and not leave the country without its permission. It also imposed several other conditions on her, including that she will not tamper with the evidence or influence witnesses.

Kavitha's bail plea was opposed by the CBI, which argued that she was a key conspirator in the case and that her release would hamper the investigation.

However, the court found that there was no evidence to suggest that Kavitha was involved in any wrongdoing and that she was only a beneficiary of the alleged scam.

The court also noted that Kavitha had cooperated with the investigation and that she was not a flight risk.

Kavitha's release on bail is a setback for the CBI, which has been investigating the Delhi Excise Policy case for over a year.

The case has already seen the arrest of several high-profile individuals, including Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and former Excise Commissioner Arva Gopi Krishna.

The CBI is expected to continue its investigation into the case, and it is possible that Kavitha could be charged with additional offenses in the future.

However, for now, Kavitha is free on bail, and she is likely to play a key role in the upcoming Telangana Assembly elections.
