Naveen Jindal Quits Congress, Joins BJP

Former MP Makes Move Ahead of Elections

Industrialist and philanthropist Naveen Jindal has resigned from the Congress party and joined the BJP. The move comes ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Jindal is a two-time MP from Haryana's Kurukshetra constituency. He won the seat in 2009 and 2014 as a Congress candidate.

In a statement, Jindal said he was leaving the Congress due to "ideological differences" with the party leadership.

He added that he was joining the BJP because he believes the party is "committed to the development of India." Jindal is the Chairman of Jindal Steel Power JSP, an infrastructure conglomerate with a focus on steel mining. He is also a philanthropist and has worked extensively in the areas of education and healthcare.

The BJP is the ruling party in India. It is led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Lok Sabha elections are scheduled to be held in April-May 2024.
